| | Jon McLaughlin - Industry | ] | So I'm sitting in my room watching the Tulane homecoming pep rally fireworks from my window, and it really just isn't the same, haha. Every fireworks show I go to for the rest of my life will be a disappointment , thanks Thunder!
I have managed to make it through midterms unscathed, so that's special. I may be a couple more hours in the negative sleep debt wise, but other than that I haven't had any nervous breakdowns or crying fits. I have decided to switch to an Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Poly Sci double major, and I planned out the next seven semesters of course work. Also after careful consideration, I decided that I am going pre-med. Someday I could be Dr. Annie, whoo!
WIll Hoge was fantastic a few weeks ago, as usual. I took Jimmy and Lee with me, and I think they had a good time. I sure did :)
So I'm not coming home for Thanksgiving, but I am going to be back in KY November 10th - 13th, and I'm pretty excited. I'm coming down to Lexington on either that Saturday or Sunday, so you UK kids clear your schedules!
Also, don't think that just because we are in college that the annual Christmas party fun will stop. I set a date (December 22nd) so mark it on your calendars and you better be there. I am hoping it will be a lovely little(or big) NOHS reunion. Assume that if you are reading this you are invited.
I love and miss you all, and I hope to see you soon!
That is all. |

| | Mat Kearney - Won't Back Down | ] | So, uh, long time no update. A lot has been happening here, which I guess is evinced by the fact that I haven't updated in a month. I think I made the right school choice, which is nice to know. I really like where I am, and I really like all of the people I have met and made friends with. Hopefully this will keep up, because I really am having a great time.
A lot of really cool stuff has been happening on campus. Last weekend All the King's Men premiered on campus. I was lucky enough to get a ticket, and was able to see the movie and stand along the red carpet. I got some pretty kickass pictures of the stars, and the school all Hollywooded up. (check the Facebook if you'd like to see them) The movie was pretty good, I'd recommend it. Monday night was the really cool event; Jude Law hosted a jazz concert on campus. Irvin Mayfield and his quintet played, and it was some really good music. After the concert I made it within a foot and a half of Jude Law. My friend Jimmy shook his hand, and I touched his shoulder. It sounds so stupid typing it out, but it was actually really cool.
I got a job on campus as an intramural official. I officiate volleyball games twice a week. The people I work with are pretty cool, and it is nice to have an activity to keep me occupied, not like I don't already have enough to do. I enjoy it though, and it never hurts to have some income flow.
Next week ESPN is going to be broadcasting from the academic quad for three days, leading up to the return of the Green Wave to the Superdome, and then the game will be broadcast live. That will be pretty cool.
Speaking of the academic quad, my classes are going well, so I'm pretty happy about that. Bio and Chem are way to easy (thanks to Mr. Wallace, and Mrs. Wilson). My theater class is basically just discussion, so that's nice. Latin could be easier, but really it's just my professor being a dick most of the time. Oh well. My labs aren't bad, and my Bio one should be cake, thank goodness for no lab reports there. TIDES is just a joke, we sit around and play on the internet all class.
I like the friends I have made. I've been down to the French Quarter a few times. I'm going back in two weeks to see Will Hoge(!!), so that will be fun. A lot of people here drink, and by a lot I mean pretty much everyone, but I have some friends who don't and everyone is cool with the fact that I don't, so that's nice.
Alright, I have a Bio test on Tuesday I need to start studying for.
That is all. |

| | John Mayer - Stop This Train | ] | Last I left off I was getting ready to leave for school. I saw Will Hoge last Friday night before I left, and he didn't let me down. Autumn went with me and we had a super fun time in Covington. It was the perfect going away event. He played a great set, and I converted a new fan, haha.
Saturday I spent all day packing all of my stuff up. I stayed up until 3:30 in the morning and had to get up at 4:45 so I would be at the airport in time for my flight. It was a nice flight and I made it to New Orleans with my stuff at 12:00 local time. I hung in the airport for a little bit with some other NOLA kids and then we headed to campus. We had some time to explore campus and then we left for our camping trip. We were staying in tents on this river beach. I forgot my pillow, so that was pretty bad, but otherwise, it wasn't as bad as I expected. It did rain both days, but our tents stayed dry on the inside, even if we didn't. Canoeing was really fun and one of my new friends was my partner. We canoed a total of 11 miles, seven on the first day and four on the second. Casey and I rocked, and didn't tip one time.
We headed back to campus on Tuesday and it started to pour just as we carried our luggage back to our dorms. I got soaked, but it's OK. We went roller skating on Tuesday night, and it was pretty fun. Wednesday we did a wetlands walk and then a swamp tour, and then that night we went to a Cajun dinner place that also had dancing. We all danced and made fools of ourselves, it was fabulous. Wednesday night was my first night that felt like college. After we got back from our dinner a bunch of us hung out in my dorm lounge and watched movies and talked. Thursday we did a comprehensive city tour with a professor from Tulane, so that was cool. We went to the top of the Tulane Public Health building and saw the city from 26 stories up, which was really gorgeous. Thursday night we went to a mall, ate dinner, and saw a movie. I saw Step Up with a few other people, but most people saw Snakes on a Plane. Step Up was cute, but totally predictable. Friday we helped to clear away a house so that it could be rebuilt. We basically just picked up bricks and wood and moved them to a dumpster. Friday night we went to Rock and Bowl, which is this really cool place that has live bands and bowling. A good time was had by all and dancing was super fun, haha. My parents dropped my stuff off at 4:30 PM and I spent time putting it all in its place after bowling.
And now we are up to today. My roommate got here at like 8:30 AM , and I wish she would have waited until like noon, haha. I really wanted to be able to sleep in for one day, but it just didn't happen for me, oh well. I had to get up early so I could move the rest of my stuff over to my side of the room. She seems pretty nice and I think we'll get along fine.
I helped recycle cardboard at 11:00 and got a free t-shirt, so that was fun. After recycling I walked around with other Annie (yes, there is another Annie. She is on my floor, and was on my NOLA track. She's pretty cool, so that's good) and we looked for more free stuff. I got a hugger and a new water bottle and some other cool crap, haha. Then we had a big freshmen meeting and then convoction with the president. After that there was a family picnic. It was pretty good food, and it was nice to see my parents. I'll see them again tomorrow morning and then not again until parents weekend. Tonight I have a floor meeting at 8:00, and then Theo Von from Road Rules and Last Comic Standing will be here! I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty excited for that. I love Theo. Tomorrow morning I'm going to a Dean's Honor Scholar breakfast with my parents and then they are headed home. After that I have a few more days of freedom and then classes start on Wednesday. I'm pretty excited for classes. I bought my books on Thursday, and they were $804.31 for 11 books. An average of $50 worth of books per credit hour. Ew. Oh well, I really do like them, so new and pretty. (Not new new, but new to me)
OK, I'm off to get ready for my meeting.
That is all.
PS I'm not quite sure how I feel about this whole central time zone thing yet. |

| | The Aviator | ] | I leave for school on Sunday, eeek! I have just about everything I need, all I have left to do is pack it all up and do a few loads of laundry. I need to decide what I'm going to take with me to pre-orientation. I can take two suitcases, and I have to take my bedding, toiletries, and enough clothes for the week. I hope I'll have enough room to fit some extras in my suitcases so I can begin to furnish my room.
Friday night I'm going to see Will Hoge in Covington for one last concert before I leave for school. I'm pretty excited for that, and I found out that he'll be in Nola in October, so that will be fun too. I'll have a couple months to find a concert buddy. Saturday night I'm going to dinner with my family and then my flight leaves at 8:00 the next morning.
I hope I can see some of the UK kids tomorrow before they all head out bright and early on Friday morning. If I don't see you before you leave, have fun and good luck, and I'll see you at christmas.
I went up to school to visit yesterday, and it was fun to see all the teachers again. I might go back tomorrow or friday so I can say hey to everyone and a couple of the teachers I missed yesterday.
I'm going to go watch The Aviator now.

I got a white MacBook, a new printer, a case, Microsoft Office for Mac, a mouse, and an extended warranty all for the same price that just the Sony was going to be. The computer came yesterday, the printer today, office and case are coming tomorrow, and the mouse next week.
I booked my flight down for pre-orientation on Monday. I leave on August 20th, and then my parents are going to meet me down there on the 25th with my stuff so I can move it all into my dorm room. I get to live in my room for four days at pre-orientation, but I don't get to have all my stuff with me, unfortunately. What will i do without my coordinated floor lamp? The first couple of days at pre-or are a camping trip, and right now its only redeeming quality is that we get to go canoeing. I really like canoeing, but the sleeping in a tent thing is really going to be bad. I did get a shirt from Quest that is pre-treated to keep bugs away, so hopefully that will work. If it does, I'm just not going to take it off for two days.
I think I might get to go canoeing tomorrow on the Blue River, so that will be fun. Hopefully it will work out.
OK, time to go to bed.

You aggravate me. You told me that my laptop would be ready and at my house by August 10th. You lied. I called you today to see why my computer was listed as "Currently Out of Stock," and you said because it was. You now tell me that I won't get my computer until the middle of September. If you had told me this when I was ordering I could have planned and found another option, but no, you waited until I have almost no choice but to sit on my hands and wait. Thanks a-fucking-lot. Sony, you suck, and I hate you right now.

| | Jason Mraz - Halfway Home | ] | OK, I have been looking at buying the Canon Rebel XT Digital SLR camera for quite sometime now. I have found it on sale for quite a deal and would end up spending less on the camera, an additional battery, a memory card, and a case than the camera is selling for most places. Here is the dilemma. I just bought a new little digital camera in April. I have the money, but should I spend it? I think I could use it in my TIDES class at school for my blog that I think I'll be required to keep this year. It has higher resolution and is much nicer than my little one overall.
Advise me friends. What would you do if you really wanted something and had the money but weren't sure if you should buy it or not? Should I save the money for a rainy day or spend it on something I think I'll really enjoy?
Think about it.

In other news, summer is almost over and that is sad. I leave for school, well pre-orientation, on August 19th. I have pre-or until the 25th, and then regular orientation until the 29th, then classes start on the 31st. Whoo!
I got my room assignment last night, so that was cool. I am living in Butler, the honors dorm, on the third floor. I'm pretty happy with it. If a hurricane floods the campus again, then my stuff will be high enough up not to be destroyed, haha. My roommate is from Montgomery, AL, and she seems pretty cool, at least her Facebook profile does, haha. (Whoa, lots of commas there) Early estimate: we will get along fine.

| | Dave Barnes - The L.A. Song | ] | I now am officially enrolled in college with classes and everything. Scary, huh? Because I know you all care, and because I already have it typed, this is my awesome schedule:
Monday:
10:00 - 10:50 Elementary French I 12:00 - 12:50 Plays and Playwrights (Honors) 1:00 - 1:50 General Chemistry (107)
Tuesday:
10:00 - 10:50 Elementary French I 11:00 - 12:15 General Biology (101) 4:30 - 5:15 TIDES - Our Digital World
Wednesday:
10:00 - 10:50 Elementary French I 12:00 - 12:50 Plays and Playwrights (Honors) 1:00 - 1:50 General Chemistry (107) 3:00 - 6:00 General Chemistry Lab (117)
Thursday:
10:00 - 10:50 Elementary French I 11:00 - 12:15 General Biology (101) 12:30 - 3:00 General Biology Lab (211)
Friday:
10:00 - 10:50 Elementary French I 12:00 - 12:50 Plays and Playwrights (Honors) 1:00 - 1:50 General Chemistry (107)
I'm overall pretty happy with the way it came out. The only thing I wanted that I didn't get was my 211 Lab on Monday afternoon instead of on Thursday. It helped having one of the first start times for registration, thank you Honors. I love that I don't ever have to take math or English ever again if I don't want to. Well, I might have to take a bit more math, I need to talk to the med school adviser to see if I should or not. I have thought about it, and I want to leave med school open as an option, just in case I decide that is the track for me. So far I am using five of my AP classes for credit, and I'll have over a semesters worth of credit, so that's cool. I really want to use my Bio credit, but I am just going to take Cell 101 because that is what they recommend, and hopefully it will be an easy A. I was able to use the leverage of the 5 to get into the advanced lab, so that's cool. The 211 is supposed to be closed to freshmen. I think I can actually use my Bio credit to get out of a Genetics class that is apparently pretty boring, so that would be cool.
Other than registering, I still haven't found out who my roommate is going to be or where I'll be living next year. I am really curious about who it is going to be. Hopefully I'll hear something soon.
Work is going well. I am going to Lexington tomorrow with Barbara to pick up her RoadTrek that she bought last week. It's pretty cool, it looks like a conversion van from the outside, but it is like a mini RV on the inside. After we pick it up on Thursday we are heading to Columbus, OH on Friday for a tennis tournament. I could be gone as long as Tuesday, or back as soon as Sunday, it all depends on how well Bill plays.
I had to get up super early today to go to the oral surgeon and have my wisdom teeth consultation. I might have to go through surgery twice, once before I go to school, and then once when I come back next summer. My right wisdom tooth isn't descended far enough, but the left is ready to come out or it might start to hurt soon. I'd rather go through the whole thing just once, but I'll have to see what they decide to do.
Alright, I'm going to go play with the registration site some more and see how many people are in my classes.
That is all. |

It's pretty fun, and the hours are great, so I think it will work out well.
Other than working and just sitting around I've been shopping, and went mini-golfing last night. That would have been a bit more fun, except I forgot that I suck at golf, oh well. I also went to see The Devil Wears Prada on Friday night with Wesley, and that was pretty good. I liked the ending of the movie better than the ending of the book.
Life has been pretty quiet this week because my parents went to Florida and left me here to keep house. I was thinking about having people over on Wednesday night, but I'm not sure that I want to put the effort in to clean the house and make it presentable. We'll see.

| | RENT - Your Eyes | ] | So, I returned from Europe on Wednesday night, and it was the best Europe trip yet. I had a blast romping around Italy and France with everyone, and I wish that we hadn't come home. This trip just made me want to study abroad even more than before.
My life has been pretty good since February, and I'll just do a quick run through the highlights. I have about a million photos all over at Blake's site if you want to look at them.
March
- Waited for college letters to come in so I could make a final decision - Planned trip to Los Angeles to visit Occidental - KUNA and The Man Show - Lots of school and homework
April
- Spring break fun - Saw The Fray on 4.04.06, got a signed setlist, which was really cool - Went to Cali, and had a blast seeing the sights and visiting Oxy - Made college decision, Tulane it is. I wish I could have gone to Oxy, but I made the financially responsible decision, and I really do love Tulane - More school and homework - Saw Will Hoge on 4.28.06 - Senior Prom on 4.29.06, after party at my house
May
- AP Exams, over on 5.18.06 - finally done with homework - Mayterm fun - trip to Shakertown with Utopia class and more boat building fun? - May 20th - 18th Birthday! - May 31st - Senior Awards, Valedictorian and 13 years perfect attendance. Finally done with high school.
June
- Last day of high school - 6.02.06 - Wrote Valedictorian speech - Saw The Fray in Cincinasty on 6.07.06 - Graduation and Project Graduation - 6.10.06 - 6.11.06 - Europe - 6.12.06 - 6.21.06, previously mentioned, best Europe trip ever.
So, those are the highlights of the last four months of my life. It was a pretty good time, and hopefully this summer will be just as awesome. Go to http://gallery.blaketyra.com/users/annie/ and you can see all of the fun documented on film. I'll add Europe pictures later, right now I have over 500 photos to sort through.

| | Daniel Powter - Lost on the Stoop | ] | This was the longest five day break ever. I visited two colleges, drove for 13 hours to get there, and flew 10 to get home.
We(my mom, Barbara, her dog Maxine, and Me) left on Thursday morning at 7:00 am and drove to Memphis to visit Rhodes. We were supposed to leave on Wednesday right after school but that just didn't work out, but that ended up being for the best anyway. So we made it to Memphis at 1:00 local time and took the tour at Rhodes at 2:00. I didn't really know much about the college, but I'm not sure that I really like it after the visit. It was OK, but I just don't think it is for me. I knew I didn't really like it after we left the tour, but I had to go back on Friday morning to do my interview that I had already scheduled. I think the interview went really well, and I liked the girl who interviewed me, but I still don't think I really liked the college.
We left Rhodes and Memphis at 11:30 and headed to New Orleans. We made it to the Big Easy at 6:00 local time and got settled into our hotel. The hotel was really nice. It was right in the middle of the French Quarter, on Canal Street, and a block away from Bourbon street. So, that was cool. My mom and Barbara went out in the French Quarter on Friday night, but I stayed in. Watching a bunch of drunk people get even drunker just didn't appeal to me, plus we had to get up early for a 9:00 am tour of Tulane.
The tour went really well. We had a much better tour guide than the one at Rhodes; she was really nice, and well informed. I really liked Tulane a lot, which I was worried about, so that is good. I can see myself being a green wave next year. After we got back to the hotel, my mom an I went out onto Canal Street for the first round of Mardi Gras parades. It was really neat, and super fun. You don't have to flash to get beads, because I stayed fully clothed the whole time, and got plenty of beads. The parades are very cool, but it really hurts to get pelted with plastic beads. They hit you in the face, and people throw them really hard, haha. After the parade my mom and I ventured down Bourbon Street. It was interesting to see, but I wouldn't spend much time there if I went to school in New Orleans. After my Bourbon Street adventure, I went back to the hotel and packed my stuff for a Sunday morning flight home.
I was really worried about the living conditions in New Orleans, but everything around Tulane was pretty much back up and running. Their area wasn't that badly affected, it was more of the downtown area and the suburbs. I think Tulane may be the school for me.
The flight home was long, but uneventful. We connected in Newark, so I got to see NYC, even if it was from 30,000 feet :) We finally made it home at 10:00pm yesterday night.
I need to go and do some homework, because I didn't get anything done on my trip. Hopefully everyone else had a great break!

I got a call from Tulane today, and I got the Dean's Honor Scholarship, so that pretty much rules. I would have preferred the $130,000 in cash, but I guess I would put that towards tuition, so whatever. ;)
Life has been pretty OK. I thought I had Senioritis last semester, but that was nothing like what I have been feeling lately. It feels like every time I sit down to do some work I just lose focus and quit. I hate that. I've also been worrying that I am going to miss a day of school. I have started setting two alarms. Losing my perfect attendance now would kill me.

It was originally going to be just Gretchen and me, but Courtney, Lisa, and Bill all joined us at the last minute. We ended up getting there a bit earlier than necessary, but you know, I like to be careful. We did have really awesome spots to stand in though. ;)
Here's a photo of all of us pre-concert. Yeah, I'm just a little excited, haha.
The opening band was called Back Yard Tire Fire. They were pretty good, but they played for way too long. Opening acts are usually on for 30-45 minutes max. These guys played for over an hour, and I was getting really antsy during the last 20 minutes of their set.
After BYTF there was a 20 or so minute break and then Will Hoge came out. The show was awesome, but what's new? Setlist was:
Lover Tonight Better Off Now(That You're Gone) Your Fool Sweet Magdeline Woman Be Strong Ms. Williams Someone Else's Baby Bible vs. Gun Hey Tonight Hearts are Gonna Roll TV Set Doesn't Have to Be That Way Secondhand Heart All Night Long ____________________ Rock and Roll Star Pocket Full of Change Carousel I've Got Friends in Low Places - Crowd Sing-a-long
The sing-a-long at the end was great.
( Photos! )
Sunday night was my 7th annual Christmas party, and that was pretty fun. I got two 12-packs of top Ramen from Erin as my gag gift, haha. We played a fun game of Cranium, and I like to think that a good time was had by all.
Monday night I sat around and read. Whoo! Tuesday I went over to Garret's with Blake and Harrison, and Wednesday I went up to BW3s with Blake, Garret, and Gretchen.
Last night was fun. I went up to Java with Erin and tons of the old seniors came up and it was nice to see them all again. It was weird to think that next year that is going to be me. We ended up going to Waffle House for a bit and that was entertaining.
Tomorrow night my Aunt and Uncle are coming over for Christmas, so that should be good. I hope everyone has a happy, safe holiday this weekend.

| | RENT - Out Tonight | ] | So, I'm definitely going to college next year, haha. I got my acceptance letter from Tulane today. I thought it was going to be another one of those, you still need to submit such and such forms when I opened it up, but then there it was, congratulations you've been admitted. So, that was pretty cool. I'm not sure that I want to go to Tulane, but I'm glad that I have it as an option.
I went out and finished all of my Christmas shopping today, so that was good. I spent way too much money, but I love giving gifts, so I guess it was worth it.
Tomorrow Wesley and I are building our gingerbread Eiffel Tower, so that will be pretty cool. I'll take lots of photos so everyone will be able to see it. This might even top the gingerbread Colosseum that Erik, Lisa, and I built last year.
Time to go and see what is going on tonight.
That is all. |

| | Will Hoge - Pretty Sure | ] | I just submitted my common app to Transy, Denison, Occidental, Furman, and Rhodes. I think I might go throw up now. I am going to stress about this until April. I still need to send the supplements to Denison, Furman, Occidental, and Rhodes, but after I do that I am finished. Oh God, please help me.
Time to go and do some relaxing Calculus homework.
That is all. |
